Gdańsk in July looks nothing like Gdańsk in November, and the difference is bigger than you might expect. This is the guide we'd give a friend with flexible dates — weather, prices, crowd levels and what each month is actually best for.

May and June — the sweet spot
Long days (up to 17 hours of daylight in June), temperatures 15–22°C, restaurants open with their summer terraces but crowds not yet overwhelming. Brzeźno beach is fully walkable, though the sea is still cold (12–17°C). Accommodation prices are noticeably lower than July–August. Our personal favourite for city breaks.
July and August — peak season
Temperatures 20–26°C, the Baltic warms up to 18–22°C — proper swimming weather. Brzeźno, Stogi and Jelitkowo beaches are alive, and evenings on Long Market never quite end. Downsides: the highest prices of the year, crowds at the main attractions, and accommodation that needs to be booked 2–3 months ahead. This is the classic beach season.
September — summer warmth, fewer tourists
Still warm (16–22°C), the sea warmer than in June (18–20°C), and the Old Town noticeably calmer. Often the best month for couples, or for anyone who wants to combine beach and museums. Prices start dropping in the second half of the month.
October and November — museum city break
Shorter days, temperatures 6–14°C, sometimes rainy and windy by the sea. Good months for museums: the WWII Museum, the European Solidarity Centre and the Amber Museum without queues. Restaurants run normal hours, accommodation prices are low, and walks on empty beaches have their own atmosphere.
December — the Christmas market
The Christmas market on Long Market (typically late November to 23 December) brings stalls with mulled wine, regional food and crafts. The centre is beautifully decorated, and the short days add atmosphere. Temperatures 0–5°C, occasional snow. Prices rise only around Christmas and New Year.
January–April — the quietest season
Lowest prices and smallest crowds. The weather is unpredictable, but on dry days Gdańsk is beautiful — clean, quiet, with strong winter light on the brick façades. March and April are good months for a first city weekend if price matters and you don't need beach weather.
