For a weekend in Gdańsk, sleep in an apartment within walking distance of the Old Town or Motława — then Fri–Sun is a stroll, not a tram. A cheaper hotel outside eats time. Below: where to stay and how not to waste a short trip.
Planning a stay in Gdańsk? See StayHere apartments — book direct, self check-in. Or jump straight to an Old Town / centre stay: StayHere apartment . District guide: Gdańsk neighborhood .
Priority: walkable location
Długi Targ, Mariacka, the Crane, Motława evenings — all in 10–20 minutes on foot. That beats any “cheaper” hotel 25 minutes by transit.
Old Town = atmosphere and weekend noise; Motława / Długie Ogrody = quieter, often parking, still close.
Apartment for 2–3 nights
Kitchen for breakfast and coffee, space for luggage, late check-in after the train. Couples are usually happier than in a hotel room.
Book early for long weekends and May holidays — the best addresses go first.
A simple weekend rhythm
Friday: arrive + Old Town evening. Saturday: museums / Motława. Sunday: slower morning and leave.
Do not plan Oliwa and Hel on the same day — the weekend is too short.
Where to stay for a Gdańsk weekend — Old Town or further?
Old Town or Motława within walking range. Further only with a car and parking included.
How early to book a weekend?
In season 4–6 weeks. Off-season often 1–2 weeks is enough.
Sopot instead of Gdańsk?
For beach and pier — Sopot. For museums and Old Town — Gdańsk. Do not mix without a transport plan.
