What “Old Town stay” means
The Old Town is a grid around Neptune, Mariacka and the Motława — not one square. “Old Town” listings may also mean Długie Ogrody. Check the map: 800 m on foot from Neptune differs from “15 minutes by transit”.
For a taxi-free weekend, aim between the Golden Gate, the Crane and Mariacka / Chlebnicka — or a quieter side street next door.
Noise, floor and street side
Długi Targ and club streets run late on weekends. If noise-sensitive, ask for a courtyard, higher floor or side street.
An apartment lets you close a bedroom door; a street-facing hotel room can be just as loud and smaller.
Parking and luggage
Core Old Town parking is limited — paid zones or buffer car parks. No car: train / taxi, then walk everything.
For late arrival, check self check-in and luggage storage for late departures.
Are Old Town stays more expensive?
Per square metre usually yes, but on 2–3 nights you save on transport and time. Compare totals with “near centre” hotels outside walking range.
Apartment or hotel in the Old Town?
For a weekend usually an apartment: kitchen, more space, direct contact. A hotel fits one night with 24/7 reception.
How to avoid weekend noise?
Side street, courtyard, higher floor. Read the listing and ask the host before booking.
