Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport is around 12 km from the Old Town. We get this question constantly from arriving guests — especially with luggage or late at night. Here are the four options we actually use and recommend, with realistic times, costs, and when each one makes sense.
Planning a stay in Gdańsk? See StayHere apartments — book direct, self check-in.
Taxi or Bolt/Uber — fastest and simplest
Off-peak travel time: 25–35 minutes to the Old Town. Cost: usually 70–100 PLN via Bolt or Uber; taxis from the rank at the terminal start around 90 PLN. This is the default option for late arrivals, families with children, or anyone with bigger luggage — no transfers, and the driver delivers you to the apartment door. In rush hour (7:30–9:30 and 15:30–18:00) add 10–15 minutes.
PKM train — cheapest and easy with light luggage
The PKM Gdańsk Port Lotniczy station is a 5-minute walk from the terminal. PKM trains run to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, where you change to the SKM commuter line to Gdańsk Główny — total 30–40 minutes, ticket around 5–6 PLN. Best price-to-time ratio if you have only carry-on or a backpack. From Gdańsk Główny to Long Market it's a further 10–15 minute walk.
Bus 210 — alternative to the main station
Bus 210 runs between the airport and Gdańsk Główny station every 30–60 minutes depending on the time of day. Journey time: around 40–50 minutes. ZTM ticket around 4.20 PLN — buy in the mPay or Skycash app. A solid daytime option; check the schedule for evenings and early mornings, when intervals get longer.
Rental car — only if you plan to leave Gdańsk
All main rental companies (Avis, Hertz, Europcar) operate at the terminal. A car makes sense if you plan trips to Hel Peninsula, the Vistula Spit, Malbork, or longer stays with a base outside the centre. In Gdańsk itself a car complicates parking — the Old Town and Motława area are paid and limited.
Quick cheat sheet — which option when?
Late or early flight: Taxi/Bolt. With kids or heavy luggage: Taxi/Bolt. Solo or two adults with light luggage, daytime: PKM + SKM. Budget and unhurried: bus 210. Day trips outside Gdańsk planned: rental car.
